Competency Testing Software

An Investment in People

People are your most important asset. They perform all the important functions that make your company a success. Therefore, ensuring that your staff are knowledgeable and that they comprehend what is required of them is essential to achieve success.

Our Competency Testing functionality addresses this matter by allowing you to construct tests and attach them to the relevant document being tested. The tests are entirely user-defined in a simple multiple-choice format. They can be scheduled to run at an optimum time and can include personnel on multiple work-sites.

Business Drivers
I want to quickly integrate new procedures
I want to identify competency gaps early
I need to make new staff productive sooner
I want to create a consistent approach

Each assessment may be assigned as many questions as you require. The question bank is jumbled up each time an assessment is taken ensuring a different selection and order of questions for each iteration. The combination of questions asked at each assessment is safely stored so that it can be reconstructed for audit purposes.

When a test is scheduled, identified personnel can automatically see who is required to take it. They can also follow the testing status of each individual as tests are completed.

The system allows tests to be rescheduled if their time has elapsed or a new version of a document is introduced.

Features

Competency Testing Software - Features

Construction
  • Offers an easy and systematic way to check users’ understanding of the contents of a specific version of a document through a multiple choice testing format.
  • Each test’s question bank can vary in size. It recognises the concept of a mandatory question as one that must always be asked and answered correctly.
  • Assessments can be scheduled to run immediately or at any time in the future as long as the document version is still viewable. Each assessment will have a predetermined number of attempts for it to be passed. Once an assessment is passed or has expired it disappears from a user’s private profile.
Running
  • Jumbles up the order and the selection of questions each time an assessment is run. This ensures the integrity of the testing process.
  • Tests are available to all users that have access to a document for which a test has been built. A test remains displayed until it has either been passed or has expired.
  • Tests can, at any time, be changed, with questions added, deleted or modified, or the entire test can be deleted.
  • Previously run assessments are stored by the system with each assessment being given a unique identifier number, which allows each assessment’s details to be retrieved and analysed.
  • Reduces liability because provides proof that staff have understood what is required of them. Can also be used to confirm compliance.
  • Assessments can be taken from any remote location. In addition to field based staff this can include suppliers, sub-contractors etc… who have access to the Internet and to isoTracker.

Training Records
  • Training records are held in isoTracker and are instantly updated when an assessment has been passed.
  • Training activity taken outside of isoTracker can also be recorded on an individual’s training records.
Training Matrix
  • Identified trainers can check on the status of training activity relating to documents accessed under isoTracker. This means that a trainer will, at any time, know the knowledge testing status of each user for each currently issued version of a document.
  • Testing status information is displayed in easily understandable format. Different colour codes and dates are used to record and report when users have passed or failed tests.
  • Print out the matrices and include them in performance reports.

FAQs

Competency Testing Software - FAQs

GENERAL
Q. What is the difference between a mandatory and a non-mandatory question?'

A mandatory question is a question that must be asked each time an assessment is run. It is also one that must be answered correctly for a pass grade to be achieved. This means that a test's pass grade must be at least be equal to the total number of mandatory questions.

Q. How can I make sure that a document's assessment will be different for every User?

Each time an assessment is taken the order and selection of the questions will be jumbled up. An assessment that has only mandatory questions will not have a different selection of questions at each run but will have a different order of questions each time. To ensure that each test is very different from another one, you must minimise the number of mandatory questions and make sure that the question bank from which a list of questions is drawn from is at least two to three times larger than the test size.

Q. Can a User re-sit a test immediately after having failed it?

Yes, but only if it has been previously failed. By clicking on the test heading in the User's private Profile the test will immediately start-up again. Alternatively you can set a delay for the re-sit of a failed test. Remember that the order and selection of questions in the test will differ each time as long as your question bank is large enough.

Q. Can a test be taken over and over again?

Once a User has passed the test, it disappears from their private Profile. Failed tests can be re-taken at any time but will also disappear when the allocated time has expired or the User has used up the allowed attempts (an amount specified at the assessment building stage).

Q. Can I make my answers "True/False"? Can there be more than one correct answer?

A question can have a minimum of two and a maximum of five answers and only one answer is correct.

Q. How am I informed that I have a test to take?

Under "To Do" and "Assessments" are listed all the tests that you currently need to take. They will remain listed until they have either expired or you have passed them.

Q. Can I update my training records with training activity taken outside of isoTracker?

Yes, there is a facility for recording courses and testing results that have occurred outside of isoTracker. This ensures that your training record maintained by isoTracker is up to date and comprehensive.
